Steal like an artist

有創意有特式就是成功的條件吧. 作者是美國作家及漫畫家. 不見他有很舉世知名的作品.

只知此書是New York Times Best Seller, 誠品的暢銷書之一.

There is an economic theory out there that if you take the incomes of your five closest friends and average them, the resulting number will be pretty close to your own income.
有像有點道理.

Nobody is born with a style or a voice. We don’t come out of the womb knowing who we are. In the beginning, we learn by pretending to be our heroes. We learn by copying. Copying is about reverse-engineering.
“Start copying what you love. Copy copy copy copy. At the end of the copy you will find your self.” _ Yohji Yamamoto

The writer Wilson Mizer said if you copy from one author, it’s plagiarism, but if you copy from many, it’s research.
這說得對.

1.     Steal like an artist
Nothing is orginal.  “What is originality?” Undetected plagiarism. – William Ralph Inge
Keep a swipe file. A file to keep track of the stuff you’ve swiped from others.

2.     Don’t wait until you know who you are to get started

3.     Write the book you want to read
You need to find a way to bring your body into your work.

4.     Use your hands

5.     Side projects and hobbies are important
When you get sick of one project, move over to another, and when you’re sick of that one, move back to the project you left. Practice productive procrastination.
Creative people need time to just sit around and do nothing. Take time to mess around. Get lost. Wander. You never know where it’s going to lead you.

6.     The Secret: Do good work and share it with people

7.     Geography is no longer our master

8.     Be nice (The world is a small town)
Stand next to the talent.

9.     Be boring. (The only way to get work done)
A calendar helps you plan work, gives you concrete goals, and keeps you on track.

10.  Creativity is subtraction.

這書比之前看的Damn Good Advice差.
