深喉嚨與吹哨子的人

這應是我看過最內容豐富, 最物超所值的英文參考書. 

Deep throat是在水門事件中一個告密的官員的代號, 意思與whistleblower差不多. 



之前已看過作者傅建中的「絞架幽默」, 這本內容更充實. 每一章, 都不止解說一個idiom, 把相關的資料, 背景, 差不多的idioms, 詞語都介紹, 所以一篇章可以解釋十多廿個詞語與idioms. 有人說這也是一本美國掌故的書, 實不為過, 因為有作者幾十年在美國生活的所見所聞. 

作者在書中, 也有說及梅艷芳這diva, 及有錢女人龔如心. 他雖是居於美國40多年, 對香港熱門話題也熟悉. 


身為政治記者的他, 中文根底也好, 我也學了一些詞語, 例如: 憬悟, 回祿之災... 後者是火災的意思. 

我覺得, 香港的古德明也有類似的本事, 不過, 說深知美國的政商情, 古就比不上傅了. 古的英文書, 編幅都小, 以此書的內容之博, 大概可以給古德明出版十本八本書了.

書中, 作者大讚宋美齡的英文, 因為當中用了很多艱澀的字, 及法文.
