2010 - Surely You're Joking, Mr Feynman!

上一回說過我如何得知此書, 就開始這個閱讀報告啦. 






書內是先說他的童年生活, 自己製造小型警鬧裝置, 把晶體收音機拆開來研究, 很快, 他住處附近的小旅館就請他修理收音機, 那個時候, 他才11, 12歲. 

他大概是繼承了父親是推銷員的精明頭腦(當然比他更優秀), 及母親風趣幽默的性格. Feynman很多書本都稱讚父親很擅於在他小時候就啟導他, 除了說非一般bedtime story, 要他觀察蟻窩之外, 會把小塊小塊的廁所磁磚放在他坐的high chair上, 要他當骨牌的排放, 之後推倒它, 然後, 再要他以不同顏色磁磚排出不同的pattern. 原來父親的用意是要他認識數學的基本是「pattern」. 



Feynman小時候在推小模型車, 後面有一個拖卡, 他問父親, 為什麼把推行中的車停止, 後面的拖卡還會繼續向前?　他的父親說這是因為「慣性」inertia, 不過, 之中的道理他就不明白了. 



甚麼是天才呢? Feynman坐在高椅上排骨牌的事他也還記得, 當時是個大嬰兒吧. 他提出的問題的質素, 就知道他與其他人普通人不同了.



所以, Feynman 用同一套方法都導兒子, 就教導不出一個諾貝爾獎得獎人了. 

影響他很深的太太Arlene, 是一個美女, 可惜在結婚後兩年就肺癆死了. Feynman明知她有肺癆也與她結婚, 是一個很深情的漢子. Arlene對藝術及音樂的愛好, 多少影響了他. 

看這一張相片, 就知道他很會開玩笑. 他在MIT讀書時, 偷了同學的一扇門, 又作弄侍應生, 是一個鬼馬有趣的人. 



所以書內文字活潑易明, 用很多象聲詞, 例如 

Bup, bup, bup, buddle bup. 

Bing, bong, bang-a-bang, bing-a-bing, bang, bang

Mmmmmmmagmmmmmbrr 

Rrrrrrrrrrmmmmmm

Da da da, ta ta ta, yak yak yak 

看得我很開心. 












這一段很爆笑, 是他20多歲時做第一個關於量子力學的講座, 當時的聽眾有最偉大的天文學家, 數學家, 最有名的物理學家, 及鼎鼎大名的愛恩斯坦. 

So it was my first technical talk… A day or two before the talk I saw Wigner in the hall. “Feynman,” he said, “I think that work you’re doing with Wheeler (Feynman的教授) is very interesting, so I’ve invited Russell to the seminar.” Henry Norris Russell, the famous, great astronomer (天文學家) of the day, was coming to the lecture! 

Wigner went on. “I think Professor von Neumann would also be interested.” Johnny Von Neumann was the greatest mathematician around. “And Professor Pauli is visiting from Switzerland , it so happens, so I’ve invited Professor Pauli to come” – Pauli was a very famous physicist – and by this time, I’m turning yellow. Finally, Wigner said, “Professor Einstein only rarely comes to our weekly seminars, but your work is so interesting that I’ve invited him specially, so he’s coming too.” 

By this time I must have turned green, because Wigner said, “No, no! Don’t worry! I’ll just warn you, though: If Professor Russell falls asleep – and he will undoubtedly fall asleep – it doesn’t mean that the seminar is bad; he falls asleep in all the seminars. On the other hand, if Professor Pauli is nodding all the time, and seems to be in agreement as the seminar goes along, pay no attention. Professor Pauli has palsy (麻痺症).” 

 

他也是當天研究挑戰者號穿梭機爆炸的成員, 以一杯冰水及一個橡皮圈解釋爆炸原因. Feynman是個出色的教育家, 擅長把深奧的東西, 簡單的表達, 所以, 有人說他解釋相對論比愛恩斯坦更容易明白. 

甚麼是天才呢? 一邊腦發達已很了不起, 他是左右腦的發展也很好, 加上聰明, 除了在topless bar看美女, 畫素描及起草演講內容之外, 竟也有時間在巴西工作外, 學森巴鼓. (Bongos) 並在嘉年華會內勝出, 我以為他有名氣, 人家才會美言他的鼓藝, 特別給他表演. 但看看他的利害. 









 
死前的片段, 他唱的是 I gonna have my orange juice, 很搞笑吧. 

就是天才, 也要苦練. 他的決心, 專注力及毅力也比常人優秀. 





It is fun to be in a different world. 我覺得很有意思, 他以假名作畫去賣及打bongos, 沒有人知他其實是CIT(加州理工大學)的年輕教授

書中也說自己很愛美女, 惹遊胡混的經驗.... 



他的人生, 很精彩. 

很多艱深的物理理論, 他都以such and such, this and that, so and so 輕輕帶過, 很可愛. 

不過, 簡單的, 我是看了它的中文版也不明白. 

相比其他中譯本, 這一個是很好了, 原來譯者是香港人! 





書中還有很多搞笑的情節, 大家去看看啦. 我已看了4本他的書喔.
